Save money on moving supplies with these 5 places to get free moving boxes

From hiring a moving company to buying moving supplies, moving can be very expensive. One of the worst things is forking over $25 for a set of normal moving boxes. This transaction is made even worse by the fact that you likely won’t be using the boxes afterward.

Luckily for movers like you, there are plenty of places where you can pick up moving boxes for free. Here are 5 places where you can find moving boxes for free.

1. Craigslist

Craigslist is a great place to find pretty much anything, moving boxes included. Craigslist has a “free” where people post listings for giving things away. Odds are you can find a listing for free boxes if you look hard enough.

2. Grocery Stores

Grocery stores often receive their shipments in large cardboard boxes that are immediately disposed of. Schlep on down to your local grocery store and ask if they have any boxes they need to be taken off their hands. The best thing about grocery stores you can find boxes of all sizes.

3. Book Stores

Book stores tend to have lots of boxes that are very useful for packing up your books and other knick-knacks. These boxes tend to be very sturdy because books are heavy. Just head on down to your local bookstore and ask any employees if they have extra boxes in the back.

4. U-Haul Box Exchange

U-Haul has a box exchange program that allows people from all over the country to find moving supplies. You can enter in your location and see listings of people who are giving away free moving boxes. Most of the time, these people have just moved themselves and need to get rid of extra boxes.

5. Offices

If you work in an office with a shipping department, consider making a trip down there to ask for some extra boxes. If you work in a large office, odds are you can find a recycling room with plenty of discarded boxes.

If you are planning a move, give Priority a call at 858-256-4808. Our full-service team of professional movers will work with you at every step from acquiring moving supplies to final unpacking.
