Thank you for choosing Priority Moving. Our San Diego Movers are specially trained and our trucks are equipped with state of the art equipment. We are here to make your move quick and trouble-free.
How long will my move take?
Generally, we can give you a verbal non-binding estimate over the phone. It will be a range and is based on our extensive experience and the information you provide to us. There are four main variables that will affect the time required to perform your move. They are:
Sometimes customers believe that by moving some boxes on their own and leaving “the big stuff” for us, they will save a large amount of time. In fact, boxes are the quickest items for us to move as well and since we have a large truck and equipment to move them, the boxes may only add little time to your overall move.
In general, moving a heavy piece of furniture or a light one takes the same amount of time. The movers must still use care in transport, professionally blanket-wrap and/or shrink wrap the item and secure it into the truck. The one exception to this is for extremely heavy, fragile or large pieces of furniture which may require special care and thus take longer to move (please notify our office ahead of your move if you have any very heavy, fragile or large furniture items or have difficult access such as a steep driveway or other obstacles).
Typically, loading the truck at origin takes longer than unloading the truck at destination. This is because loading takes more organization, the furniture must be prepared and wrapped for the journey, the load secured and the truck organized. The unloading consists primarily of unloading your goods at your destination. The size of your home (square footage) and number of bedrooms do not affect the length of your move as much as the 4 variables described above.
Boxes and Packing
To avoid damage, use good quality boxes, purchased from Priority Moving (our prices are very competitive), or some other source. (Warning: insect eggs and insects such as roaches can travel in food boxes taken from grocery stores)
Boxes need to be taped and closed at the bottom and the top so they can be stacked safely in the truck. Avoid loading more than 40 pounds in any single box. Heavy items such as books, videos and CD’s should be packed only in small (1.5 cubic feet) boxes. If you need to pack heavy items in larger boxes, make sure you mix them in with lighter items, reducing the overall weight of the packed box. Newspapers may be used for packing, but remember that ink may rub off and stain your clothes or other items. Unprinted newsprint is the best packing material and is available from Priority Moving, Inc. and other suppliers. Let us know ahead of your move if you wish us to bring extra boxes for you.
We supply 24-inch wardrobe boxes (8 will be on the truck, let us know if you need more) free of chargefor your use on the day of the move. We also supply approximately 10 large (32 gallon) Rubbermaid, closeable, stackable bins free of charge for your use on the day of the move. These bins save time and work well for transporting food from your refrigerator, small potted plants, small lamps, CD’s and any last minute possessions that you were not able to pack in standard boxes. You can even use our thick furniture pads inside of the bins for extra protection for electronics, lamps and breakables.
You should take all items out of the drawers of your furniture. This is for the protection of the furniture. With the drawers emptied, the item weighs significantly less and there is a much lower risk of damage (especially to the drawers) during transit.
Your furniture will be professionally wrapped with thick furniture pads and/or shrink wrap either inside your home, or on the truck (depending on what is safer for the item). Pictures and wall hangings will be wrapped with thick furniture pads for their protection. Mattresses are carefully carried and placed on furniture pads inside the truck. If you wish your pictures to be packed in boxes or your mattresses placed in mattress bags, please let us know ahead of your move so we can have them at your move (there is an additional charge for their use).
DO NOT PUT VALUABLE ITEMS SUCH AS LAPTOPS, SMALL ELECTRONICS, JEWELRY, FIREARMS, MONEY, EXPENSIVE COLLECTIONS, FINE ART ETC. ON THE TRUCK. BRING THOSE VALUABLE ITEMS WITH YOU.
ANY ITEMS OF “EXCEPTIONAL OR EXTRAORDINARY VALUE” MUST BE SEPARATELY LISTED ON THE BILL OF LADING.
Additional Priority Moving Information
Upon arrival the movers will introduce themselves, prepare the front door (to protect from scratches) and entryway (to keep dirt out), go over the contract with you, and get any special instructions from you. They will then bring up the wardrobe boxes and bins for your use and begin the move.
If your move includes significant packing by us, involves a 3rd floor with stairs, or is a large move, we strongly suggest a 3-man crew (or more).
We have found that customers are happiest when they are present for the entire move. Not only are you available to answer specific questions about your possessions (placement, special instructions, etc.) but you get to see the crew working hard to please you. Please do not leave the crew alone.
Your crew will bring a full set of tools and are happy to assemble/disassemble beds and other pieces of furniture. If your item requires a special tool (that came with the item), please have it ready or let the office know ahead of time.
Please keep in mind that start times are approximate and may vary.
If we are moving your appliances, please make sure that the connections for gas and/or water are disconnected before the movers arrive. We will be happy to transport your appliances but cannot disconnect or re-connect any gas and/or water hoses at your destination.
Also, if you need special materials or services, please let the office know before the day of the move.
We take great care in seeing your goods arrive undamaged and our crews are professionally trained and very careful. However, moving is a dynamic experience and on occasion, possessions may get damaged. Each truck carries an assortment of professional furniture scratch removers and typically small scratches can be satisfactorily repaired on the scene. Should there be any damage, please notify your crew and/or our offices.
Your crew will load the truck in the quickest and most efficient manner for your particular situation. Sometimes they will bring items out and load the truck with them on each trip. In other cases, they may bring a number of loads out to the truck and then load, organize and secure them in the truck all at once. Thus please do not be alarmed if it seems the movers don’t return from the truck at the same amount of time on each trip.
Protection (coverages) for your Possessions

“Important Notice About Your Move” or the Not to Exceed Notice
As required by regulation (Max Rate Tariff 4), you will be given an “Important Notice About Your Move” document. This sets the maximum, or “not to exceed price” for your move. This is not necessarily the price you will pay for your move, but based on the information provided to us by you, and the services included and excluded on the form, it is the maximum price you can be charged for your move. State regulations require that you sign and return the Notice to us before the move may begin.
Payment Policy
Payment for your move is made on the day of the move. We accept cash, charge (Visa, MC, Discover or Amex.), or check. Personal checks and credit cards are accepted only with valid identification and pre-approval.
If your move occurs over several days, the balance for each day must be paid at the end of that day.
Thank you again for your business and we look forward to serving you!
