Located in the Mid-City region of San Diego, California, The College Area is a neighborhood that located near San Diego State University (SDSU) and is comprised of SDSU students and residential residents. The College Area’s borders are defined by Montezuma Road to the southwest, Interstate 8 to the north, 73rd Street/the city of La Mesa to the east, Kensington and Talmadge to the west, and the Historic El Cajon Boulevard to the south. Within the College Area in San Diego there are more defined neighborhoods including:
Saranac-Mohawk: The Saranac-Mohawk is a neighborhood of the College Area consisting of residential and business neighbors from the north side of El Cajon Blvd. to Alvarado Rd. and from Reservoir Dr. to 70th St.
East Falls View Drive: East Falls View Drive is a neighborhood of the College Area which includes residences along East Falls View Drive between Montezuma Drive and West Falls View Drive, and Adobe Drive.
Dennstedt Point: Dennstedt Point neighborhood includes: Lenore Drive, Judson Way, Cleo Street, Julie Street and Richards Street.
Catoctin Area: The Catoctin Area makes up the neighborhood bounded by Montezuma Road to the south, Alvarado Rd to the north, Alumni Place to the East and Shane Place to the west.
ATTRACTIONS:
Viejas Arena: formerly known as Cox Arena, Viejas Arena is located on the SDSU campus in The College Area. The home of the San Diego Aztec’s men and women’s basketball teams, Viejas is also hosts athletic events, concerts, conferences, lectures and academic gatherings.
San Diego Police Museum: whether you are looking for some family fun or just looking to brush up on some San Diego history the San Diego Police Museum is the place for you to explore. Located at 4710 College Avenue, the museum is open Wednesday thru Friday noon to 4pm and Saturdays 10am to 2pm. Admission is free and the history is rich making this an affordable educational and cultural activity.
BOO! Parade: San Diego’s only Halloween Parade, The BOO! happens annually in the College Area. The Boo! Parade is free-to-attend, family-friendly and features ghoulish floats, vintage cars, bands, costumes, food, vendors and fun. event includes floats, zombies, music and fun. After the parade, CABC AfterBOO! Carnival hosts carnival rides, music and food at the College Avenue Baptist Church.
CAFÉ- College Area Food Experience: CAFÉ happens every May in the College Area Business District. Enjoy a diverse dining experience and a complimentary shuttle with over 30 participating neighborhood restaurants. CAFÉ ticket holders enjoy a wide variety of local specials, craft brews, mixes, and wines.
