Our Movers in Orange County Offer These Tips on Packing Books and Collectibles

January 25, 2019Priority MovingMoving TipsNo Comments

If this is your first move or you haven’t had to move in more years than you can remember, you might not realize the importance of using the right packing methods for different items. For example, if you have a selection of valuable collectibles and books, there are specific packing techniques you should use to ensure that everything arrives at the other end of your move intact. Our movers in orange county who specialize in library moves offer these simple tips on how to handle your valuables with care.

1. Quality Boxes

Make sure the boxes you use are strong enough to be up to the task of protecting your collectibles and books. You may find some stores can help with lightly used boxes but buying new boxes from your movers in Orange County may be a much better option.

2. Line the Boxes

Before you put the first item in a box, line the box with bubble wrap or at least some packing paper. Then after you have finished filling the box be sure you fill any voids with more packing paper or bubble wrap and place a layer on top of everything before sealing it up.

3. On the Edge

Far too many people make the mistake of packing their books flat when putting them in the box. Library movers in Orange County say the proper way to pack books safely is on their spines, alternating spine up, spine down as this will eliminate the risk of damage.

4. Keep it Light

The next most common mistake is to overpack the boxes. If the boxes are too heavy, you run the risk of dropping them and damaging their contents. Keeping them light will also reduce the risk of a serious back injury.

5. Individually Wrapped

When it comes to your collectibles, use bubble wrap to wrap each item individually. Line the box with bubble wrap and then use more to fill any voids in the boxes to keep things from moving around while in transit. Plates and bowls should be placed on their sides rather than flat for better protection.

These are just a few tips to help you pack your books and collectibles. However, if you don’t have the time or prefer to let someone else do the packing for you, contact Priority Moving at (858) 256-4808. Our teams of professional movers in Orange County are here to help make sure your move goes smoothly from start to finish.
