Full Service Movers Offer These Tips for Moving Your Fitness Equipment

October 25, 2018Priority MovingMoving Tips, UncategorizedNo Comments

Whether the time has come for you to move your exercise equipment across the house or across the country, full service movers say it is important for you to understand the challenges you face. Because exercise equipment tends to be quite heavy and bulky, making it significantly harder to move with a much higher risk of injury. At Priority Moving we can provide you with a team of experts to help you move your fitness equipment using their knowledge and equipment to keep everyone safe. However, if you choose to move your fitness equipment yourself, we offer these tips:

  1. Start with the Owner’s Manual – you might be surprised at how many people don’t think to read the owner’s manual. Yet it contains a wealth of information such as safe lifting spots, how heavy the item is, and any specific details relating to how to move the item.
  2. Pull the Plug – although this might seem like one of the more obvious steps to take, again you might be surprised at how many people forget to pull the plug. You could rip the plug off the end, the cord out of the equipment, the outlet out of the wall, or it could hang up and cause you to drop the item injuring someone and damaging it. Pull that plug and tape it to the equipment!
  3. Bend Those Knees – you have probably been told to bend your knees to lift heavy objects. But when it comes to fitness equipment, full service movers say it is even more important. If you try to lift heavy exercise equipment using your back, it won’t be long before you end up injuring yourself.
  4. Buddy Can You Lend a Hand – even if you think you are capable of moving a particular piece of equipment, there is still a high potential for injury. Grab a buddy to make sure things go smoothly. Two people can maneuver small heavy items and larger items around the house, into the truck, out of the truck, and into your new home safely while one might be seriously injury. Keep in mind that many hands make light work, grab as many friends as you can to make things go faster.
  5. Use Smart Lifting Techniques – start with using proper lifting techniques, but make sure you use moving dollies, have a helper tilt the bigger items so you can get under it and lift it properly. Never try to “deadlift” any heavy item, this is a sure way to seriously injure yourself.
  6. Make Sure Your Load is Secure – you can’t just toss your exercise equipment in the truck and expect it to stay in place. You must secure it in place. Leaving it loose will allow it to slide around, which could damage the equipment, your vehicle, or both.
